Work-Based by Design
CPI connects formal learning with professional practice. Learning can draw on employment, projects, responsibilities, previous study and relevant experience.
Develop the skills your people need without forcing your organisation into a one-size-fits-all training model. Caribbean Polytechnic Institute works with employers, public-sector bodies and other organisations to adapt relevant courses, professional development and qualification pathways around real workplace needs.
Custom training is not simply an existing class delivered to a private group. It begins with the knowledge, skills, competence or qualification outcome that your organisation and learners need, then identifies the most appropriate CPI programme, course, units or learning activities to support that outcome.
CPI already provides flexible, applied and work-based learning across technical, professional, management, health and social care, education and public-service fields. Our custom-training approach extends that model by allowing relevant learning to be organised around your operating environment, workforce profile and development priorities.
A solution may range from a focused short course or workshop to a structured multi-week programme, an employer cohort, a work-based development programme or a recognised qualification pathway.
Where a programme leads to an externally regulated or awarded qualification, required learning outcomes, assessment criteria and other mandatory qualification rules remain in place. CPI customises the learning experience around those requirements wherever permitted.
Bespoke delivery gives organisations greater control over how relevant training fits their workforce while giving learners a programme that connects directly with the environment in which they work and perform.
Start with an existing CPI course or qualification, combine relevant subject areas, or select suitable units and learning activities where the programme structure permits.
We consider the learner group, existing qualifications, professional experience and applicable Recognition of Prior Learning arrangements when determining an appropriate pathway.
Delivery may be organised around shifts, operational demands, project periods or agreed training days, while still meeting required guided learning or qualification requirements where applicable.
Depending on the subject and programme requirements, training may be delivered online, live virtual, face-to-face, on-site, in practical facilities, in the workplace or through a blended model.
Examples, case studies, legislation, standards, operating procedures and workplace scenarios can be contextualised for Jamaica, the Caribbean, a particular sector or the organisation itself where appropriate.
Practical exercises and workplace projects can be shaped around authentic organisational problems, processes, equipment and improvement priorities where these support the intended learning outcomes.
Where programme rules allow, assessment evidence may be gathered through workplace projects, practical demonstrations, assignments, portfolios, presentations or other valid methods aligned with the required criteria.
Training can be designed for a whole team while recognising differences in learner experience, job role, academic readiness and support needs.
CPI connects formal learning with professional practice. Learning can draw on employment, projects, responsibilities, previous study and relevant experience.
Solutions can draw from applied science and technology, business and management, health and social care, social sciences and education, as well as professional and short-course provision.
Online study, workplace activity, practical sessions and face-to-face instruction can be combined according to the subject, learner group and programme requirements.
Relevant prior qualifications, training and experience may support admission, progression or exemptions where they map appropriately to programme requirements.
Where appropriate, learners work with real tasks, workplace evidence, practical activities and projects designed to strengthen transfer of learning into job performance.
An organisation may require a short intervention, continuing professional development, a structured certificate or diploma, or a longer progression pathway. CPI can help identify the best fit.
Every organisation is different. We use a structured process to move from your business need to a practical, deliverable learning solution.
We discuss the performance issue, skills gap, compliance requirement, development goal or qualification need you want the training to address.
We consider job roles, prior knowledge, qualifications, experience, location, schedules and any relevant entry or support needs.
CPI identifies suitable courses, units, qualifications or learning activities and determines what can appropriately be adapted.
Training is delivered through the agreed modality with practical, interactive or workplace application incorporated where relevant.
Learning and competence are assessed as required. We can also review learner feedback and organisational outcomes to inform future development.
The examples below are not a fixed custom-training catalogue. They show the breadth of subject areas from which a workforce solution may be developed, subject to programme availability and qualification requirements.
PLCs, generator maintenance, technical systems, engineering operations, energy efficiency and related applied skills.
Facilities management, contract administration, maintenance, building services, utilities, estates and grounds.
Occupational health and safety, food safety, risk management, compliance and workplace regulatory practice.
Leadership, management, procurement, logistics, project-related practice, quality and organisational performance.
Public administration, governance, service improvement, organisational practice and professional development.
Teaching, assessment, workplace instruction, trainer development, digital education and learning support.
Computing, cybersecurity, digital skills, online professional learning and selected industry certifications.
Tell us the capability you need to develop. CPI can review its existing portfolio and relevant specialist resources to determine whether a suitable solution can be built.
Effective workforce development has to work on both sides. Employers need relevant capability and measurable value. Learners need a realistic route to build competence, demonstrate achievement and, where appropriate, progress toward recognised qualifications.
“The objective is not to make the qualification fit the company by changing its standard. The objective is to make the learning experience fit the company and learner while achieving the required standard.”
CPI's portfolio includes institutional courses, professional programmes and externally awarded qualifications. The scope for customisation therefore depends on the type of programme selected.
CPI will preserve mandatory learning outcomes, assessment criteria, qualification rules and required quality assurance arrangements. Where permitted, the delivery schedule, teaching approach, contextual examples, workplace activities, assessment evidence opportunities and learner support can be adapted to make the programme more relevant to the organisation and its learners.
There is generally greater scope to shape course content, duration, learning activities and assessment around the organisation's specific objectives, subject to academic approval, available expertise, safe practice and the integrity of the learning outcome.
Upskilling, technical capability, compliance training, management development and operational improvement.
Professional development, public administration, workplace capability and targeted cohort programmes.
Focused training that develops essential capability without requiring a large internal training function.
Group learning, continuing development and tailored education for members, practitioners and stakeholders.
Tell us what your organisation needs its people to know, do or achieve. We can help determine whether an existing CPI programme can be adapted or whether a more targeted training solution is appropriate.
A useful starting point is the problem you are trying to solve, the people who need training and the outcome you want to achieve. You do not need to have selected a CPI course before contacting us.
